Sabbatical 2025 Sunset over Montana

Walla Walla to Yellowstone

Posted on September 9, 2025September 9, 2025 By David Sibley

Hello from the road! Things have been both remarkably busy and remarkably slow – which is exactly what I hoped for in this sabbatical trip. We left town on Thursday, albeit much later than we planned, actually leaving Walla Walla around 3:00 pm. We couldn’t help notice the air getting hazier as we moved northward; western wildfires would come to define the travel days of our trip.

See! the streams of living waters,
springing from eternal love,
well supply thy sons and daughters
and all fear of want remove.
Who can faint, when such a river
ever will their thirst assuage?
Grace which, like the Lord, the giver
never fails from age to age.

Round each habitation hovering,
see the cloud and fire appear
for a glory and a covering,
showing that the Lord is near.
Thus deriving from their banner,
light by night, and shade by day,
safe they feed upon the manna
which he gives them when they pray.

John Newton (1725-1807)
